The Thick Film Integrated (TFI) ignition system consists of a distributor, a module, E-Core ignition coil, ignition switch, battery, and primary and secondary windings Fig. 1. The TFI module is mounted to the side of the distributor housing held with 2 screws. The ignition module is directly connected to the pick-up coil assembly thereby needing no wiring harness.

The distributor has the following components: Pick-up coil assembly with internal teeth, distributor shaft, reluctor with external teeth (mounted on the distributor shaft), ignition module (mounted on the outside housing), centrifugal and vacuum advance mechanisms, rotor and distributor cap.
Though it is horizontally mounted the operation is the same as a vertical distributor. The rotating armature (reluctor) induces a signal in the stator assembly (pick-up coil) causing the module to turn the ignition coil current On and Off, generating the high voltage to the spark plugs.
