SHOP MANUAL REVISION - (2.8L) IDLE MIXTURE SETTING PROCEDURE


LIGHT TRUCKS 1983-1/2-84 RANGER, BRONCO II

The correct part number for the test adapter which is required for the above 2.8L application is Tool No. T84T- 9600-A. This must be used along with the original test kit (T75L-9600-A) to perform the idle adjustment (propane test), on the Bronco II and Ranger 2.8L vehicles.

IDLE FUEL MIXTURE-PROPANE ENRICHMENT METHOD

2.8L BRONCO II/RANGER TRUCK UNDER 8500 GVW w/2150A FB


NOTE: This procedure is for the 2.8L engine only. It is not for trucks over 8500 GVW.

1. Vehicle Preparation

A. Apply the parking brake and block the wheels.

B. Verify that timing is set to specification.

C. Remove the air cleaner assembly.

D. Disconnect wiring harness from carburetor feedback solenoid, located in the rear of carburetor.

E. Remove the PCV valve from the rocker cover grommet and move away from the crankcase vapors.

F. Disconnect the fuel evaporating purge line (from the intake manifold spacer at the purge solenoid).

G. Install Test Adapter T84T-9600-A into the end of purge line that is still connected to the intake manifold spacer.

H. Disconnect ISC motor from wiring harness as follows:
Simultaneously:
1. Connect a tachometer, Rotunda Model 059-00001, 099-00003, or equivalent.

2. Start engine.

3. Manually hold throttle above 1000 rpm.

4. Push ISC plunger until it retracts fully.

5. After plunger retracts, release throttle and quickly unplug the connection.

NOTE: Before proceeding, verify that the throttle lever is resting on the speed screw.

I. Install air cleaner assembly, but do not connect the flexible fresh air tube to the air cleaner duct and valve assembly. Using a propane enrichment tool, Rotunda Tool T75L- 9600-A or equivalent, insert the tool hose approximately 3/4 of the way into the duct and valve assembly. If necessary, secure the hose with tape, J. When the above Steps have been completed, proceed to Section II.
