The catalytic converter heat shield may buzz/rattle under various vehicle operating conditions. Installation of a spacer pad (E3TZ-5F215-A) should eliminate the heat shield buzz/rattle condition.

Figure 8:

Use the following procedure to install the spacer pad (Figure 8):

^ Briefly submerge pad in ordinary tap water to moisten the interior core of the spacer pad.
^ Carefully pry the middle edge of the heat shield approximately 1/2 inch away from the converter body.

NOTE: Care must be taken to avoid damaging the converter body, shield or attaching welds.

^ Install the moistened spacer pad between the heat shield and converter body as shown in Figure 8.
^ Reposition the middle edge of the heat shield to its original location.
