LIGHT TRUCKS 1983 RANGER 4x4 AND 1984 BRONCO II
If partial or incomplete engagement of the transfer case shift lever detent position occurs, or should the transfer case control lever assembly require removal and replacement, use the following adjustment procedures:
Adjustment Procedure of an Existing Assembly
1. Raise the 7E463 shift boot assembly to expose the top surface of the cam plate.

2. Loosen bolts A & B to finger tight, and position the transfer case shift lever to the 4L position (lever down as shown by arrow in Figure 8).
3. Move the cam plate rearward until the bottom chamfered corner of the neutral lug just contacts the forward right edge of the shift lever (see point C in Figure 8).
4. Holding the cam plate in this position, torque bolt A first to 70-90 ft.lbs., and then bolt B to 31-42 ft.lbs.
5. Move the transfer case in-cab shift lever to all shift positions to check for positive engagement. There should be clearance between the shift lever and cam plate in the 2H front, 4H rear (clearance not to exceed .13 inch), and 4L rear shift positions.
6. Install shifter boot assembly.

Adjustment Procedure, When The Shifter Assembly Requires Removal and Replacement:
1. Prior to installing the 7E069 shifter assembly, move the transfer case shift lever to the 4L position (lever down as shown by arrow in Figure 8).
2. Install the 7E069 shifter assembly with bolts A & B finger tight, and move the cam plate rearward until the bottom chamfered corner of the neutral lug just contacts the forward right edge of the shift lever (see point C in Figure 8).
3. Complete Steps 4, 5 and 6 above.
