FUEL ECONOMY (2.3L) AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

CALIBRATIONS: 3-50S-R1/R10 and R11
Concerns of poor fuel economy on the subject vehicles may be improved by performing the modifications listed below:
Fuel economy should be improved under most conditions, but will be most significant during cold weather conditions. The modifications should be performed as follows:
^ Remove the EGR valve - replace with E3TZ- 9H495-W.
^ Remove the carburetor choke spacer - replace with E3PZ-9A539-A.
^ Remove the distributor advance diaphragm - replace with E2BZ-12370-F.
NOTE: Adjust the set screw 3-1/2 turns from the clockwise lock position prior to installing.
^ Remove the air cleaner bi-metal sensor - replace with D7FZ-9E607-A.
^ Remove the air cleaner duct retard delay valve - replace with E3AZ-12A208-E.
^ Check and ensure that all vacuum connections agree with the emission system vacuum decal located on the radiator support.
^ Adjust ignition timing from 8~ BTDC to 12~ BTDC.
^ Adjust carburetor idle speeds to engine decal specifications.
Obtain an Authorized Modifications decal and list the date, dealer number and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications decal. Clean the area, install the decal and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
