Article No. 85-8-25

NOISE - SQUEAK - FRONT SPRING
RETAINER

LIGHT TRUCK 1982-85 RANGER AND BRONCO II

Figure 37 - Coil Spring and Locking Tab:

Ranger and Bronco II vehicles may experience a front suspension squeak as a result of the RH front spring tower locking tab rubbing against the coil springs (See Figure 37).
When servicing a vehicle with a squeak in the right front, perform the following procedure:

1. Determine if the squeak is coming from the RH front spring area.

Figure 37 - Coil Spring and Locking Tab:

2. Bend spring tower locking tab (See Figure 37) up and away from adjacent (lower) coil. A small pry bar or large screw driver can be used to seat tab firmly against upper coil. Be careful during bending of locking tab that the coil spring is not damaged with nicks or gouges.
3. Verify squeak has been eliminated.
