NOISE - GROWL - VEHICLES WITH

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

LIGHT TRUCKS 1983 RANGER, 1984 BRONCO II

Some Ranger 4x4 and Bronco II vehicles built in January 1983 may exhibit a ground-out condition between the automatic transmission floor shifter and the transfer case shift mechanism detent plate. This ground-out condition will result in a "bearing growl" type noise.

This noise is a result of the bezel screw on the left side rear of the transmission floor shifter grounding out. To eliminate this condition, remove the screw and replace it with bezel screw #N610130-S2 which is 19 mm shorter.
