DISTRIBUTOR OCTANE ROD - SERVICEABILITY (2.8L)

LIGHT TRUCKS 1984-85 RANGER, BRONCO II

CALIBRATIONS: 4-61S-R19, 5-61S-R02

The subject vehicles may be equipped with a 4~ advance octane rod (Part No. E4EE-12A355-CA, color coded black).

It should be noted that this unique octane rod (4~ advance) is not serviced. If it is necessary to replace the 4~ rod, use a 0~ rod as described below:

1. Remove and discard 4~ advance octane rod (Part No. E4EE-12A335-CA) by referring to procedure outlined in 1984 Truck Shop Manual (Section 23).
2. Obtain a 0~ octane rod (Part No. E4FZ-12A335- A) and install in the distributor, referring to procedure outlined in the 1984 Truck Shop Manual (Section 23). This will provide 10~ BTDC, initial timing.
3. To obtain the original 14~ BTDC, initial timing, use timing light and refer to procedure outlined in the 1984 Truck Shop Manual (Section 23-01-8).

Authorized Modifications Decal:

Obtain an Authorized Modifications decal and list the date, dealer number and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications decal. Clean the area, install the decal and cover with a clear plastic decal shield.
