Wiper and Washer Systems: Description and Operation

STANDARD WIPERS

The two speed, permanent magnet, three brush electric windshield wiper motor has a brush rigging that permits selection of low or high speed. When the control selector is in the low position, current flows through the entire armature winding, causing the motor to run at a slow speed. When the control selector is in the high position, current bypasses a portion of the armature winding, causing the motor to run faster. When the control selector is moved to the park position, the motor will continue at low speed until the park switch outer contacts open, stopping the motor in the park position.

Bronco & F-100-350
This system is a two speed wiper system with an interval feature. For normal wiper operation, turn the wiper control knob clockwise to either one of the detents. For interval operation of the wiper switch, rotate the wiper control knob counterclockwise. The further the knob is rotated counterclockwise, the longer the time interval between wiper blade sweeps.
Pushing the switch knob actuates the washer pump only. The control switch must be rotated to ``LOW'' or ``HI'' for wiping action.

GOVERNOR

The governor used for the interval wiper system is mounted on lower flange of instrument panel below the wiper-washer switch.
