RADIO - AM BAND IGNITION NOISE

FORD 1984 CROWN VICTORIA

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1984 LINCOLN TOWN CAR AND GRAND MARQUIS
Ignition noise in the radio system, which may still be present after performing TSB 84-17-6, may be caused by the TFI distributor to coil wiring. Reworking circuit number 20 will eliminate the noise.

Figure 4 - Article No. 85-1-6:

REWORK OF ORIGINAL COIL CONNECTIONS:

To modify the wiring, the following procedure should be performed (refer to Figure 4).

1. Disconnect the two-way connector at the coil assembly. Extract the terminal carrying the white/ blue hash wire.
2. Cut the two wires (green/yellow dot and white/ blue hash) as close as possible.
3. Crimp one end of three wires to a new terminal (female) as follows:
^ green/yellow dot-removed in step 2
^ 1 1/2 inch length of 16 gauge wire
^ 6 inch length of 16 gauge wire
4. Install terminal into the two-way connector of step 1 and mate the connector to the coil connector.
5. Crimp a terminal, D8BZ-14474-C, to each of the remaining ends of the 1 1/2" and 6" wires of step 3.
6. Crimp a terminal, D2OZ-14474-D, to the white/ blue hash wire previously removed in step 2.
7. Cut the white/blue hash wire as far away from the distributor (TFI) module as possible. Do not allow wire to extend beyond the plastic protector.
8. Crimp the terminal, D2OZ-14474-D, to end of wire from TFI module.
9. Install appropriate hard-shell connectors to all four pins:
^ Male pins D3AZ-14489-BA
^ Female pins D3AZ-14489-P
10. Mate the white/blue hash wire from the distributor (TFI) to the new 6" lead from the coil.
11. The connector on 1 1/2" lead does not require retention. Tape the remaining connector to the resistor at coil assembly.
