Liftgate - Service Replacement
Article No. 85-12-22LIFTGATE - SERVICE REPLACEMENT
LIGHT TRUCK 1984 BRONCO II
When replacing the liftgate on 1984 Bronco II vehicles, it will be necessary to retrofit with a 1985 Bronco II liftgate as 1984 1iftgates will no longer be serviced. This will also require replacement of all mechanisms and trim panel to the 1985 design level, excluding two latch actuator rods and the glass.
Procedure to Retrofit 1985 Model Bronco II Liftgates on 1984 Bronco II Vehicles
1. Obtain the appropriate 1985 design level liftgate, mechanisms and trim panel.
2. Remove the liftgate from the vehicle.
3. Remove hinges and glass from liftgate and retain along with attaching hardware, including weatherstrip and latch for the flip window, if so equipped. (See Shop Manual, Section 44-41, pages 1 thru 7 for removal instructions.)
4. Remove the following parts from the old liftgate assembly and retain them for use in the 1985 liftgate:
404B44 Rod Assembly - Liftgate Latch Actuator (RH) 404B45 Rod Assembly - Liftgate Latch Actuator (LH) (These rods extend from the liftgate handle to the liftgate latches.)
Discard the old liftgate including remaining mechanisms and trim panel.
5. Install the 1985 design level mechanisms (locks, latches, and lock sets) and the old actuator rods into the new liftgate along with old glass and new 1985 trim panel.
6. Install the new liftgate assembly onto the vehicle using the old hinges. (See Shop Manual, Section 44-41, pages 1 thru 7 for installation instructions and torque specifications.)
