NEW SERVICE PART AND PROCEDURE

LIGHT TRUCK: 1983-87 E SERIES, F SERIES

ISSUE: A new, improved and longer electric shut-off solenoid (ESO) and fuel injection pump governor cover assembly are now available for service.

The new assembly can be used to service all prior model year vehicles. The ESO solenoid is part of the fuel injection pump governor cover and is not serviced separately. In addition, a special tool is being supplied with each new assembly to aid in governor cover installation.

Figure 17:

ACTION: If service is required, use the following procedure to install the governor cover assembly with the longer ESO solenoid.

1. Depress the ESO solenoid arm and insert special tool as shown in Figure 17.

NOTE: A special tool is provided with the governor cover assembly. The tool is used to hold the ESO solenoid arm in the run (pulled-in) position to allow for the needed clearance during installation of the governor cover on the injection pump. A new governor cover gasket is also provided with the assembly. This gasket should be replaced each time the cover is removed.

2. Use the same governor cover assembly installation procedure as described in TSB 85- 2-19. Install governor cover assembly from the rear and slide forward.

3. Rotate ESO solenoid arm holding tool 90~ and remove using care not to damage governor cover gasket.

4. Finish governor cover installation as described in TSB 85-2-19. Check for pre-load before installing hold-down screws and the audible click when energizing the ESO solenoid terminal to be sure of correct installation.
