Subject: Owner Notification Program M49 - Engine Cooling System on Certain 1984 and 1985 - Model LTD Vehicles (5.0L H.O. CFI Police Interceptor)
This is to advise you of Owner Notification Program M49. Technical and administrative instructions and a copy of the letter being sent by the Company to owners are shown on Attachments I and II, respectively.
All of the subject vehicles require the service shown below to help prevent the described conditions that might occur when the vehicles are operated at high speeds after extended periods of engine idle and when the ignition is subsequently turned off.
^ Upgrading of the engine cooling system to help prevent engine detonation and overheating.
^ Installation of a gasket between the intake manifold and fuel charging assembly spacer to help assure more even fuel distribution.
^ Installation of a variable waterflow restrictor into the heater core inlet hose to help prevent heater core damage.
Please assure that your parts and service personnel are familiar with the details of this program so that they may respond to vehicle operators' inquiries.
Dealerships to whom involved vehicles have been delivered are provided a listing that identifies those vehicles. Only those vehicles shown on the listings are eligible for the service provided under the M49 program.
The service provided under the M49 program will be performed at no charge to owners through June 30, 1987. After June 30, 1987, it will not be covered under this program, but will be the owners' responsibility.
Reimbursement coverage is provided for owner-paid repairs performed prior to the announcement of this program because of the described conditions. Owners must submit requests for reimbursement to dealerships by June 30, 1987. Dealerships must submit owner reimbursement requests on separate warranty claim Forms 1863 by August 31, 1987.
Dealerships are asked to service all involved vehicles that are returned to them in response to this program regardless of who delivered the vehicles.
