Subject: Owner Notification Program B76 - Engine Blocks in Certain 1985-Model Rangers Equipped With 2.3 Liter Diesel Engines
This letter is to advise you of Owner Notification Program B76. A summary of major program features is shown on Attachment I.
Engine blocks on some of the subject vehicles may have been manufactured with a casting flaw. A stress crack can start as a result of a notch (sharp corner) in the main bearing bulkheads of the #1 and #2 bearings. Engine oil leakage from the front passenger side of the engine and a severe engine knock are the symptoms of this condition.
Owner Notification Program B76 provides extended coverage and reimbursement for the engine block casting flaw and related engine repairs.
Detailed technical and administrative instructions and a copy of the letter being sent by the Company to owners are provided as Attachments II and III, respectively.
Please assure that your parts and service personnel are familiar with the details of this program so that they may respond to owners' inquiries.
Your efforts will help assure continued owner satisfaction with their Ranger vehicles.
