Idle Speed: Adjustments
CURB IDLE SPEED, ADJUSTNOTE: If curb idle speed is not correct after performing the following procedure, the EEC-IV system must be diagnosed.
1. Start engine and run in NEUTRAL until normal operating temperature is reached, with A/C OFF.
2. Stop engine, then disconnect electrical connector from ASC air bypass valve.
3. Start engine and run at approximately 2000 RPM for two minutes.
4. Return engine to idle and adjust to 700-800 RPM for models with manual transmission or 675-725 RPM for models with automatic transmission by turning the adjusting throttle plate stop screw as necessary.
5. Stop engine, then restart and check idle RPM.
6. Stop engine, then disconnect bypass valve electrical connector. If excessive idle speeds are encountered while operating vehicle, turn ignition OFF, then restart engine.
