M/T - Hard Shift/No Shift Condition

TRANSMISSION - TK 5 (MAZDA 5-SPEED) - HARD OR NO SHIFT CONDITION

LIGHT TRUCK: 1986-87 RANGER


ISSUE: A transmission that is hard to shift or a transmission that will not shift may be caused by a broken shift lever housing. The broken shift lever housing allows the shift lever shaft to come loose from the transmission which results in the hard or no shift condition.

ACTION: To correct this, install a new shift lever assembly with four (4) new attaching bolts. Torque the bolts to 7- 10 ft.lbs. (9-13 N-m). Refer to the appropriate Ranger/Bronco II Shop Manual, Section 16-20 for detailed service procedures.

NOTE: THE NEW SHIFT LEVER ASSEMBLY IS SERVICED IN A "NATURAL" BEIGE COLOR TO DISTINGUISH IT FROM PREVIOUS LEVEL ASSEMBLIES.
