Ignition Timing - Spout Connector Locations

IGNITION TIMING - ALL EEC - "SPOUT" CONNECTOR


FORD 1985-86 ESCORT, EXP, TEMPO, MUSTANG, LTD, THUNDERBIRD, CROWN VICTORIA; 1986 TAURUS

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1985-86 LYNX, TOPAZ, CAPRI, MARQUIS, COUGAR, GRAND MARQUIS, CONTINENTAL, MARK VII, LINCOLN; 1986 SABLE

LIGHT TRUCK 1985-86 RANGER, BRONCO II; 1986 AEROSTAR

There are two different "spout" line connector locations.

Up to mid-year 1985, a single wire in-line barrel type "spout" connector was used on all EEC applications. It was located near the distributor.

For 1985 2.3L Ranger, the in-line "spout" connector was moved from its location near the distributor to a location that is between the engine and the right hand fender apron.

For 1986 Ranger/Bronco II and Taurus/Sable vehicles, the in-line "spout" connector was replaced by a double wire "spout" connector with a shorting bar.

In-line "spout" connectors will be replaced by shorting bars on other passenger car and truck applications during the 1986 model year.

The 1986 initial timing Setting Procedure has been revised to accommodate both types of "spout" connectors.

NOTE: Please replace page 15-1 published in the 1986 Engine/Emissions Diagnosis Manual (Volume H) with the procedure included with this Technical Service Bulletin.

Initial Timing Procedure


PRELIMINARY NOTE


The procedure described below for setting initial timing is to be used under normal circumstances. If problems are encountered setting initial timing using this procedure, the spark timing procedure that follows should be used to diagnose the problem.

NOTE:
Spout connectors are normally located near the distributor. On 2.3L Ranger applications, the spout connector is located between the engine and the right hand fender apron.
