Reasons for The affected trucks were produced with engines having
This Program oil level indicator tubes that are the incorrect length.
This will result in a false reading of the oil level and the potential for overfilling the engine oil by one quart. Engines operated with one quart of oil above the full mark may experience poor performance, sluggishness, detonation and engine damage.
Program Owners of affected trucks will be notified to return their
Provisions trucks for no-charge replacement of the engine oil level
indicators and tubes. Engine damage as a result of this condition will also be covered. Contact your Service Zone Manager for authorization before repairing engine damage.
Program Service provided by this program is available at no
Limitations charge during the vehicle powertrain components warranty
coverage (24-months from the in-service date or 24,000 miles of service, whichever comes first), or October 31, 1987, WHICHEVER PROVIDES GREATER COVERAGE.
Refunds Owners who have paid for service as a result of this
condition prior to the announcement of this program will be refunded the costs of parts and labor, including any deductible charges. Refund requests must be submitted to a dealer by September 30, 1987. Requests for emergency repair refunds will be accepted until program expiration.
Action By Ford Owners of affected trucks are being mailed the letter
Motor Company shown on Attachment II. Eligibility for the B78 program
can be determined through CARES or OASIS.
Action By Correct all affected trucks in dealer stock and contact
Dealers owners that have recently taken delivery of affected
trucks.
