91ford16
RECALL NUMBER 91S37
Date October, 1991
TO: All Ford Dealers
SUBJECT: Safety Recall 91S37 - Aerostar Rear Liftgate Gas Cylinder Body Attachment (Ball Stud)
AFFECTED VEHICLES Certain 1987 and 1988 Aerostars with rear
liftgate (does not involve dual rear cargo doors).
REASONS FOR RECALL The rear liftgate gas cylinder body attachment
(ball stud) may fracture.
A fractured ball stud would result in the gas cylinder becoming disconnected from the body. The remaining connected gas cylinder will not support the liftgate in an open position. An inadequately supported liftgate may unexpectedly drop downward and cause physical injury to a person under the liftgate.
To correct this condition, dealers are to replace the two gas cylinder ball studs attached to the body of the vehicle. The ball studs attached at the liftgate end of the gas cylinders are not to be replaced under this recall.
REFUNDS Only for owner-paid repairs made before date of Owner Letter.
