Recall - Seat Belt Inspection/Modification: Overview

TO: Selected North American Ford Product Dealers and Affiliated Ford Motor Companies


SUBJECT: Safety Recall 89S78 - 1986 and 1987 Aerostar Front Passenger Seat Belt Inspection.

AFFECTED Certain 1986 and 1987 Aerostars built from May 31, 1985 through
VEHICLES September 3, 1986 and equipped with factory installed Captain's
Chair Front Seats.

REASONS FOR During normal use some chaffing or abrasion could occur to
RECALL the right front passenger seat belt webbing.

Abrasion results from the belt rubbing across the exposed outboard seat back pivot hinge.

The level of protection offered by the seat belt may be reduced and the risk of injury to the front seat passenger may be increased.

ACTION Install protective cover over the seat back pivot hinge,

inspect and if necessary, replace the seat belt assembly.

IF THE SAFETY BELT IS TO BE REPLACED DO NOT SUBMIT FORM 1864 UNTIL BELT IS INSTALLED.
