Engine Assembly - Proper Identification

ENGINE ASSEMBLY - 1.9L EFI AND 1.9L EFI H.O. - Article No.
PROPER IDENTIFICATION OF SERVICE PART 87-5-17
APPLICATIONS

FORD 1987 ESCORT, EXP

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1987 LYNX

ISSUE: All 1987 1.9L engines have EFI and are identified by EFI markings on them. The engine code should be used to correctly identify the engine application (base or H.O.). This determines which of the two types of electronic fuel injection is used. Proper identification is needed to make sure the correct service parts are used.

ACTION: If service is required, dealers should use the engine code to identify which EFI system is used. The engine code decal is located on the engine timing belt cover.
