VEHICLES BUILT FROM JOB #1 THROUGH 11/06/86
FORD - LIGHT TRUCK: 1987 F-250/350
ISSUE: 1987 F-250/350 trucks with steel, rear axle fuel tanks, built from Job #1 through 11/06/86, may experience poor performance, lack of power, or other driveability concerns when operating on the rear fuel tanks. In these cases a 3- 1/2 psi sender/fuel pump assembly may have been installed instead of the correct 5 psi pump. Units built with a mechanical fuel pump system or a plastic rear axle tank are NOT affected.
Figure 12 - Article 87-8-17:
ACTION: To correct this, install a sender/fuel pump assembly (E7TZ-9H307-E), Figure 12. Refer to the 1987 Light Truck Shop Manual, Volume B, Section 24-35.
NOTE: The fuel pumps can be identified by the color of the pump tower, Figure 12. The 5 psi pumps have a gray pump tower and the 3-1/2 psi pumps have white/cream colored pump towers.
