1. Rotate worm shaft gear through entire length of travel, counting number of turns. Turn back exactly halfway, centering gear.
2. Remove sector cover bolts, sector cover and shaft. Remove shaft from cover by turning screw clockwise, Fig. 3. Do not lose screw shim.
3. Remove worm bearing adjuster locknut, worm bearing adjuster and worm shaft thrust bearing.
4. Remove worm shaft and ball assembly from housing, ensuring ball does not travel to either end of shaft.
5. Pull out sector shaft and worm shaft seals and discard seals, Fig. 3. Individual parts of steering gear assembly are not serviceable. If worm gear cannot rotate freely in ball nut, replace entire assembly. Do not disassemble for repair.
6. Remove adjuster nut bearing cup from worm bearing adjuster using puller tool T58L-101-A and slide hammer, Fig. 4.
7. Remove housing bearing cup using bearing driver and hammer, Fig. 5. Bushing in sector cover is not serviceable. Sector cover is serviced as a unit only. Sector shaft needle bearing is not serviceable, except as a unit with housing. Do not attempt to remove needle bearing.
