Starter Motor: Service and Repair

EXC. DIESEL ENGINES
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Disconnect starter cable from starter.
4. Remove starter motor attaching bolts, then disconnect ground cable and lower starter from vehicle.
5. Reverse procedure to install..

1. Disconnect battery ground cables from both battery assemblies.
2. Disconnect, then remove air intake hose between air cleaner and intake manifold.
3. Remove No. 1 glow plug relay from starter motor assembly, then position aside.
4. Mark, then disconnect starter motor solenoid electrical connectors.
5. Remove alternator reinforcement bracket attaching bolt.
6. Remove two starter motor attaching bolts, then the starter motor assembly from vehicle.
7. Reverse procedure to install.
