ACCEL - ROUGH/ERRATIC ENGINE PERFORMANCE - (2.3L EFI NONA/C VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 8/16/86)

LIGHT TRUCK 1987 RANGER

The (2) yellow/light green wires for the EFI spark output circuit on the 12A581 wire assembly may contact the heat tube retaining clamp and become chafed and shorted.

When the subject condition is encountered, the inspection/repair procedure listed below should be followed to correct the concern.

Figure 15:

1. Locate the (2) yellow/light green wires for the EFI spark output circuit on the 12A581 wire assembly near the heat tube. (See Figure 15)

2. Check each wire for possible damage caused by chafing on the heat tube retaining clamp.

NOTE: If wires are not damaged, Step 4 should be performed to preclude future chafing of the wires. When this is done, continue with normal diagnostic procedures.

3. If damaged wires are found, repair as necessary.

4. Obtain tie strap, 95874-S, and secure the 12A581 wire assembly to heater hose. (See Figure 15)

5. Check vehicle for proper operation.
