FORD: 1986-87 TAURUS

ISSUE: A hard start or a no start condition at 20-40 degrees F (-13 to 4 degrees C) may be caused by the technique used for cold engine start-up.

ACTION: If the "No Touch" starting procedure outlined in the owner guide does not allow the engine to start within ten
(10) seconds, use the following starting procedure.

1. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position.

2. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position.
3. Depress and hold the accelerator pedal 1/4 of the way down.

4. Turn the ignition key to the "START" position and crank the engine.

5. When the engine starts, slowly release the accelerator pedal.

NOTE: TO AVOID STARTER MOTOR DAMAGE, DO NOT HOLD THE IGNITION KEY IN THE "START" POSITION LONGER THAN THIRTY (30) SECONDS AT A TIME.
