FORD: 1987 ESCORT, EXP, TEMPO, TAURUS

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1987 LYNX, TOPAZ, SABLE

ISSUE: The 1987 Car Shop Manual, Volume E, Sections 17-25-83 and 17-25-84 and the 1987 Taurus/Sable Shop Manual, Sections 17-25-75 and 17-25-76 state that the main control assembly (valve body) check ball locations are dependent on model usage. This is not correct.


ACTION: Please correct your Shop Manual to reflect the proper check ball location:

All 1987 main control assemblies will have a check ball at the center location. The lower check ball location is used on Tempo/Topaz (2.3L) models only. Tempo/Topaz models will use a total of seven (7) check balls, while all others will have only six (6).
