ALTITUDE ADJUSTMENT - 5.8L - HIGH ALTITUDE SERVICE MODIFICATION - VEHICLES UNDER 8500 GVW

LIGHT TRUCK: 1988 ECONOLINE
ISSUE: Customers who formerly lived at altitudes below 4000 feet and have relocated to a higher altitude region above 4000 feet should have their Econoline modified to meet high altitude requirements to improve vehicle performance. The 1988 Econoline with the 5.8L engine was calibrated based on the region of operation.
ACTION: If service is required, modify the calibration to meet high altitude requirements by installing a high altitude fuel vapor canister. Refer to the following service procedure.
1. Prior to modifying the vehicle, make sure the existing fuel vapor canister and sleeve assembly has engineering part number E25E-9C985-BA.
FIGURE 12:
2. Remove the existing fuel vapor canister and sleeve assembly, Figure 12.
3. Install a high altitude fuel vapor canister and sleeve assembly.

4. Install a Ford Vehicle Emission Control Information Update Decal denoting the fuel vapor canister change, Figure 13.
