Distributor, Disassemble


1. Remove distributor cap and vacuum hose.
2. Disconnect ECM connector from distributor wiring harness.
3. Remove coil positive terminal nut and disconnect distributor harness connector and suppression capacitor wire.
4. Pull distributor connector off coil ground terminal tab and open harness routing clip freeing distributor primary circuit wires.
5. Remove distributor from engine.
6. Pull rotor off shaft and remove dust cover with seal ring.
7. Disconnect three wiring harness connectors from ignition module.
8. Pull armature off rotor shaft using a puller.
9. Remove two ignition module mounting screws and remove module.
10. Remove two module heat sink securing screws and remove heat sink.
11. Remove C-clip retaining vacuum advance link on stator plate.
12. Remove two vacuum advance securing screws, disengage link from stator plate and remove vacuum advance.
13. Remove two stator plate retaining screws, then lift stator plate out.
14. Scribe one flyweight drive pin and flyweight guide plate.
15. Remove snap ring retaining flyweight guide plate, then remove guide plate.
16. Scribe rotor shaft, then remove rotor shaft retaining screws and lift shaft out.
17. Mark pivot pin of same flyweight previously marked.
18. Mark flyweight spring connected to flyweight previously marked.
19. Remove C-clips retaining flyweight on pivot pin.
20. Remove plastic caps, then unhook and remove springs.
21. Lift flyweights off distributor shaft plate pivot pins.
22. Loosen suppression capacitor retaining screw and remove capacitor.
23. Inspect flyweights, springs and pivot pins for wear.
24. Remove shaft bearing and oil seal by driving out drive tang cross pin and removing tang and pin.
25. Remove two seal retainer securing screws, then lift out seal retainer, seal and shim.
26. Drive out bearing from housing using a suitable bushing tool.
