Ignition Coil: Service and Repair


Removal

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect coil secondary lead off coil tower.
3. Disconnect ECM and ignition module primary connectors from coil ground terminal.
4. Slide primary positive terminal boot and disconnect ignition module suppression capacitor, and battery positive leads.
5. Loosen mounting bracket screw, then slide the coil out.

Installation

1. Position coil in mounting bracket and tighten mounting screw.
2. Connect battery positive, suppression capacitor and ignition module positive leads to the coil primary (+) terminal, then replace insulating boot.
3. Push ECM and ignition module ground connector on terminal tab.
4. Plug coil secondary lead into tower.
5. Connect battery ground cable.
