Emissions Recall 93E37 - Emissions Control Systems Modifications on Certain 1988-Model Federal and Canadian Rangers Equipped With 2.0L Engines

AFFECTED VEHICLES
1988-model Rangers equipped with 2.0L engines having engine calibration code 8-41D-R04.

REASONS FOR RECALL
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Ford have conducted in-use tests on some of the affected Rangers and have determined that they may emit nitrous oxide at levels which exceed Federal standards. During the tests it was also discovered that the Owner Guide starting instructions for the engines in these Rangers was not correct.

Owners with Rangers requiring the service provided by this recall will be notified and receive a copy of the revised engine starting instructions. The remaining owners will receive only copies of the revised engine starting instructions.

SERVICE ACTION
Rangers returned for the service provided by this recall will have engine emissions control systems modifications and replacement of exhaust system catalysts at no charge to owners.
