ISSUE: A no start or stall condition on 1988 Ranger/Bronco II vehicles with a 2.3L or a 2.9L EFI engine may be caused by the 12A581 wire harness rubbing against the coil mounting bracket and shorting to ground.

ACTION: To correct this, install a piece of convolute tubing on the 12A581 wire harness. Refer to the following service procedure.

FIGURE 17:

1. Locate coil assembly mounted on left hand fender apron, Figure 17.

2. Check the four (4) wires exiting the 12A581 wire harness near coil for damage from rubbing against coil or bracket.

3. If wires are damaged, repair wires and tape as necessary.

NOTE: IF WIRES ARE NOT DAMAGED, STEP 4 THROUGH 5 SHOULD BE PERFORMED TO AVOID FUTURE POTENTIAL CONCERNS.

4. Obtain convolute tubing D4SZ-14A099-F.

5. Install tubing on the four (4) wires. Butt one (1) end against wire harness connector and wrap both ends with electrical tape.
