EEC IV QUICK TEST - 2.5L - SERVICE CODE "78" STORED IN KEEP ALIVE MEMORY (KAM) - VEHICLES WITH ATX OR MTX TRANSAXLES

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1988 SABLE


ISSUE: Service code "78" in KAM may be displayed during the EEC IV Quick Test. This may happen if the power is interrupted or if the EEC IV processor is re-initialized. A momentary buck, jerk, or hesitation may or may not be present.

ACTION: If service is required, refer to the following information to assist in diagnosing service code "78".

1. Clear service codes from EEC IV processor KAM.
2. Perform "wiggle test" as outlined in the Engine/Emission Diagnosis Manual, Volume H, Section 16 and normal diagnostics for continuous service code "78".

3. If service code "78" is still present, no corrective action is available. A service repair procedure will soon be released to correct this concern.

NOTE: DO NOT REPLACE THE INTEGRAL RELAY CONTROL MODULE (IRCM) OR EEC IV PROCESSOR.
