Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Valve Body: Testing and Inspection

INSPECTION
1. Thoroughly clean all parts (except check balls) in clean solvent, and blow dry with moisture free air.
2. Inspect all valve and plug bores for scores.
3. Check all fluid passages for obstructions.
4. Inspect all mating surfaces for burrs and scores.

NOTE: If necessary, use crocus cloth to polish valves and lugs. Avoid rounding edges of valves and plugs.

5. Inspect all springs for distortion.
6. Check all valves and plugs for free movement in their respective bores.

NOTE: Valves and plugs, when dry, must fall from their own weight in their bores.

7. Roll the manual valve on a flat surface to check for bent condition.
