Cylinder Head Assembly: Service and Repair

1. Remove timing belt covers and timing belt as outlined previously.
2. Remove intake and exhaust manifolds.
3. Disconnect spark plug wires and remove spark plugs from cylinder head.
4. Disconnect distributor electrical connections, scribe alignment marks on distributor base flange and cylinder head, then remove distributor mounting bolts and the distributor.
5. Remove front and rear engine lifting eyes, then disconnect ground wire from cylinder head.
6. Disconnect all remaining electrical wiring that will interfere with cylinder head removal.
7. Remove upper radiator hose, then the bypass hose and bracket.
8. Remove cylinder head attaching bolts, cylinder head and gasket.
9. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Ensure cylinder head and block mating surfaces are clean and free of gasket material.
b. When installing head gasket, ensure serrated edges of gasket are positioned as shown, Fig. 2.
c. Install cylinder head and attaching bolts, then tighten bolts in sequence shown, Fig. 3.
