Alternator: Description and Operation

The charging system is a negative ground system consisting of an alternator with an electronic internal voltage regulator, storage battery, a charge indicator, and the necessary electrical wiring and cables.

The alternator is mounted at the passenger side of the vehicle on the front of the engine and is belt driven utilizing the engine water pump pulley drive belt.

The alternator produces alternating (AC) current which is changed to direct (DC) current by the internal rectifier for distribution to the vehicle electrical system.
