This article is being republished in its entirety to cover 1987-1990 Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis station wagons.
ISSUE: A noise heard in the passenger compartment coming from the electric fuel pump inside the fuel tank may be caused by lack of sound-deadening material on the vehicle underbody.
ACTION: Insulate the fuel tank with four (4) pieces of .090" thick self-sticking plastic sealer. Refer to the following service procedure for installation instructions.
1. Remove the fuel tank. Refer to the appropriate Car Shop Manual, Section 24-50, for service details.
2. Clean the side of the fuel tank that faces toward the vehicle underbody.
3. Obtain the four (4) sheets of sealer.

4. Remove the protective backing and apply the sheets of sealer to the pump side of the fuel tank, Figure 1.
NOTE: CUT A HOLE IN THE UPPER PIECE OF SHEET "A" FOR THE BREATHER VENT.
5. Reinstall the fuel tank.
