Stall Test
STALL TESTStall Speed Chart:
NOTE: This test should only be performed with engine coolant and transmission fluid at proper levels and at operating temperature and throttle valve linkage properly adjusted. Apply parking and service brakes for each stall test. Refer to the Stall Speed Chart.
1. Connect tachometer to engine and position so meter reading can be viewed from driver seat
2. In each of the following ranges, D, 3, 1, and R, press accelerator to floor and hold just long enough for engine to reach full RPM and record results. Run engine at fast idle in Neutral, between each test to cool transmission fluid.
CAUTION: If tachometer reading exceeds specified RPM, release accelerator pedal immediately.
Stall Speed Too High
1. A high stall speed in D and 3 indicates planetary one-way clutch slippage.
2. A high stall speed in D, 3, and 1, indicates forward clutch slippage.
3. A high stall speed in R, indicates reverse clutch or low-reverse band slippage or defective low-reverse servo.
4. If stall speed is high in all positions, check throttle valve cable adjustment and perform Control Pressure Test. Control Pressure Tests
Stall Speed Too Low
1. If stall speed is low, check engine performance.
2. If engine performance is satisfactory, remove torque converter and bench test stator one-way clutch.
