Inspection
Fig. 11 Exploded View Of Oil Pump:
1. With all parts clean and dry, check inside of pump housing and outer race and rotor for damage or excessive wear, Fig. 11.
2. Check mating surface of pump cover for wear. Minor scuff marks are normal, but if cover, gears or housing surfaces are excessively worn, scored or grooved, replace pump. Inspect rotor for nicks, burrs or score marks. Remove minor imperfections with an oil stone.
3. Measure inner to outer rotor tip clearance. With rotor assembly removed from pump and resting on a flat surface, clearance must not exceed .012 inch.
4. With rotor assembly installed in housing, place a straightedge over rotor assembly and housing. Measure clearance between straightedge and inner rotor and outer race (rotor endplay). Clearance must not exceed .005 inch.
5. Inspect relief valve spring to see if it is collapsed or worn. Check relief valve spring tension. If spring is worn or damaged, replace pump. Check relief valve piston for free operation in the bore.
6. Internal components are not serviceable. If any component is out of specification, pump assembly must be replaced.
