1. Relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL PRESSURE RELIEF.
2. Disconnect battery cables, then remove battery.
3. Mark hood hinge locations, then remove hood.
4. Drain cooling system, engine oil, automatic transaxle fluid.
5. On all models, disconnect or remove the following, Figs. 2 and 3.
a. Battery carrier and fuse holder.
b. Air filter assembly and duct.
c. Engine and EFI wiring harnesses.
d. Distributor wiring at coil and three sensors at thermostat housing
e. Oxygen sensor.
f. Radiator and cooling fan electrical connectors.
g. Automatic transaxle models: transaxle oil cooler lines.
h. Manual transaxle models: clutch release cylinder.
i. Front section of exhaust pipe.
j. Discharge A/C system.
k. A/C lines on compressor and the A/C compressor clutch electrical connector.
l. Power steering lines.
m. Engine ground strap.
n. Heater hoses and fuel lines.
o. Vacuum lines to brake booster, charcoal canister, firewall mounted solenoids and distributor.
p. Automatic transaxle electrical connectors.
q. Speedometer cable.
6. On turbocharged models, disconnect or remove the following:
a. Turbocharger hoses and pipe.
b. Driveshafts.
c. Transaxle shift cable or rod.
7. Install engine lifting equipment.
8. Remove engine mount bolts.
9. Remove engine and transaxle as an assembly from vehicle.
10. Reverse procedure to install.
