Circuit Breaker: Testing and Inspection

The 6 amp circuit breaker is located in the fuse panel. Two separate tests are necessary to check for correct circuit breaker operation. Remove circuit breaker from fuse panel and connect tester leads to circuit breaker.

TEST 1

1. Short tester leads together and adjust current draw until it equals circuit breaker rating.
2. Connect circuit breaker to tester.
3. Leave circuit breaker connected to tester for ten minutes, holding current reading on tester at rated current. If circuit breaker opens before ten minutes has elapsed, replace circuit breaker.

TEST 2

1. Short tester leads together and adjust current draw until it is twice the rated current.
2. Connect circuit breaker to tester, holding current reading on tester at twice the rated current.
3. If tester reading does not drop to zero within 30 seconds, replace circuit breaker.
