Axle Housing Removal

Backing Plate Removal:

1. Remove the four retaining nuts from each backing plate and wire the backing plate to the underbody.

Axle Vent Removal:

2. Disconnect the vent hose from the vent and the vent from the rear axle housing.

NOTE: The axle vent is secured to the housing assembly through the brake junction block.

Brake Line Removal:

3. Disengage the brake line from the clips that retain the line to the axle housing and carrier.

Brake Line Junction Block Removal:

4. Remove the hydraulic brake junction block from the axle housing. Do not open the hydraulic brake system lines.

Axle U-bolt Removal:

5. Support the rear axle housing on a jack, and then remove the U-bolt nuts. Remove U-bolts and plates.

Shock Absorber Lower Bolt Removal:

6. Disconnect the shock absorber lower bolts from the mounting brackets on the axle housing.

Remove the housing from the vehicle.
