Exhaust Gas Recirculation: Description and Operation

Typical Electronic EGR System:

The Electronic EGR Valve is required in EEC systems where EGR is controlled according to the computer demands by means of an EGR Valve Position (EVP) sensor attached to the valve. A vacuum signal from the electronic vacuum regulator operates the valve. The vacuum signal overcomes the spring load and actuates the valve diaphragm. The pintle is then lifted off its seat, allowing exhaust gas to recirculate or flow. The flow amount is directly proportional to the pintle position. The Electronic Control Assembly receives an electronic signal from the EVP sensor (mounted on top of the valve) indicating its position.

NOTE: Refer to "Vacuum Components" for a description and operation of other vacuum related components for this system.
