Fuel Delivery and Air Induction: Service and Repair

AIR BYPASS VALVE CLEANING

1. Remove the Air Bypass Valve from the vehicle.
2. Remove the electrical solenoid assembly from the mechanical portion of the Air Bypass Valve by removing the two screws, then sliding the mechanical portion away from the solenoid.
3. Soak the mechanical portion in carburetor cleaner.
CAUTION: Do not exceed three minutes soak time, and do not use choke cleaner, as an internal O-ring may begin to deteriorate.
4. With the mechanical portion completely submerged shake in all directions. Then push in on the rod that mates with the solenoid assembly, and again shake in all directions with the unit submerged and the rod held in as far as possible.
5. Remove the mechanical portion from the cleaning fluid and dry out thoroughly using shop air.
6. Assemble and install the valve.
7. Check idle speed. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS/MECHANICAL for idle speed values.

FUEL INJECTOR CLEANING

1. Relieve the system pressure.
2. Disconnect the fuel supply line from the inlet of the fuel rail.
3. Attach the fuel supply line to the return line.
4. Plug the fuel return fitting at the fuel rail or connect to tester/cleaner depending of configuration.
5. Connect the fuel supply hose from the tester/cleaner to the Fuel Supply Manifold.
6. Turn the tester/cleaner on. (Tester/cleaner should run 10 minutes)
7. Start the engine and check the fuel lines for leakage. If there is any sign of leakage, turn the vehicle and the tester/cleaner off and repair the location where fuel is leaking. Then return to Step 6.
8. When the engine speed has stabilized, set the idle speed at 2000 rpm. Run the remainder of the 10 minute cycle to eliminate all the air in the fuel supply hose and fuel rail.
9. Turn power switch off and disconnect power lines.
10. Disconnect cleaner supply hose from the fuel supply manifold.
11. Connect vehicle fuel lines. Start engine and check for leaks. Lubricate O-rings prior to installation and ensure fuel lines are securely connected.
