Transmission and Drivetrain: Testing and Inspection

NOISE & VIBRATION IN TURNS

Clicking, popping or grinding noises while turning may be caused by the following:
1. Cut or damaged CV joint boots, resulting in contaminated lube in outboard or inboard CV joints.
2. Loose CV joint clamps.
3. Worn, damaged or improperly installed wheel bearings.
4. Foreign object contacting halfshaft assembly.

VIBRATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS

1. Out of balance front wheels or tires.
2. Improperly seated outboard CV joint in front wheel hub.
3. Bent interconnecting shaft.
4. Front tires out of round.

SHUDDER OR VIBRATION DURING ACCELERATION

1. Excessively worn or damaged inboard or outboard CV joint.
2. Ensure axle shaft is not twisted or cracked.
3. If equipped with vibration damper, ensure damper is not damaged or loose on shaft.

HALFSHAFT OR CV JOINT PULL-OUT

Engine Or Transaxle Misaligned

1. Check engine mounts for damage.

Front Suspension Components Worn Or Damaged

1. Check for worn bushings or bent front suspension components.

Improperly Installed Or Missing Retainers

1. Check for CV joint circlip missing or not properly seated in transaxle side gear.

FAULTY OPERATION OF DRIVESHAFT

1. Check for broken ball joint, tripot joint or worn or seized joint.
