LIGHT TRUCK:
1990-92 ECONOLINE, F SUPER DUTY, F-250, F-350
ISSUE:
Low oil pressure or no oil pressure may be caused by "cracking" or "breakage" of the oil pump or oil pump pick up screen, at the flange attachment braze joint to the tube. This may be caused by the back and forth rotation of the pump body around the pump shaft axis and is prominent at high engine R.P.M. (3500-4000). The rotation occurs when Oil tries to compress between the inlet and outlet ports within the "G" rotor set as the mating parts rotate, while driven by the pump drive shaft.
ACTION:
Replace existing oil pump and the tube, screen and cover assembly. Refer to Section 03 of the appropriate Service Manual for service details.
NOTE:
THE TUBE, SCREEN AND COVER ASSEMBLY IS IDENTICAL TO THAT REMOVED. AS A PRECAUTION, REPLACEMENT OF THE ASSEMBLY IS RECOMMENDED, THIS WILL ELIMINATE ANY CHANCE OF A MICROSCOPIC CRACK NOT BEING NOTICED DURING INSPECTION OF THE ORIGINAL OIL PUMP OR OIL PUMP PICKUP SCREEN AT THE FLANGE ATTACHMENT BRAZE JOINT TO THE TUBE.
