Barometric Pressure Sensor: Description and Operation
Barometric Pressure Sensor:
The Barometric Pressure (BP) sensor is a frequency generating device that produces a varying signal depending on the amount of atmospheric (barometric) pressure. The Transmission Electronic Control Assembly (TECA) monitors the frequency emitted from the BP sensor and converts the signal to atmospheric pressure. The TECA uses this reading to update the barometric pressure value stored in RAM memory.
The TECA uses the input from the BP sensor to adjust transmission shift scheduling, capacity, and converter clutch operation for the affect of altitude.
The BP sensor will also set a fault code when the TECA determines the output signal to be out of the normal operating range.
