Clearing Keep Alive Memory (KAM) and Relearn Procedure

The processor stores data about vehicle operating conditions and uses this information to compensate for component tolerances. When an emission related component is replaced, Keep Alive Memory (KAM) should be cleared to erase the data stored by the processor from the original component.

1. With the ignition switch OFF, disconnect the negative battery cable for a minimum of five minutes, then reconnect the cable.
2. Operate the vehicle for a minimum of ten miles to allow the Engine Control Assembly (ECA) to relearn values for optimum driveability and performance.
NOTE: Distance varies with vehicle application.
