Neutral Safety Switch: Service and Repair

W/A4LD TRANSMISSION

1. On models equipped with airbag, disarm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable and isolate cable end with electrical tape.
3. Disconnect electrical connector from neutral start switch.
4. Remove neutral start switch and O-ring using Neutral Start Switch Socket Tool No. T74P-77247-A or equivalent.
5. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. torque switch to 7-10 ft.lbs.
b. Check operation of switch with parking brake engaged. The engine should start only in Neutral or Park.
c. Reactivate airbag system.
