Pinion Depth

Fig. 2 Pinion Depth Adjustment:

1. Connect one 12 volt battery as shown, Fig. 2.
2. Disconnect field coil connector from ``M'' terminal.
3. With battery connected, solenoid should released pinion gear.
4. With pinion extended, measure gap between pinion gear and collar. Pinion clearance should be .020-.080 inch, If test must be repeated, allow solenoid to cool.
5. If clearance is not within limits, check for improper installation or worn parts and replace as necessary. Clearance may be adjusted by adding or removing shims between solenoid and the drive end housing as necessary.
